Recipe Ingredients:
- 1 1/4 cups M&M’s Milk Chocolate Cupid’s Mix, divided
- 1 pkg (14 oz) store-bought rolled pie crusts
- 1 egg
- 1 cup reduced-sugar strawberry preserves
- 1 cup icing sugar
- 2 tbsp milk
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 4 drops pink food coloring
Directions:
Prep Time: 45 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 1 hour (+ 15 minutes standing time)
- Preheat oven to 375°F. Chop half of the M&M’s; set aside.
- On lightly floured surface, roll out pastry; using 2-inch heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut out 32 hearts, rerolling scraps as needed (reserve any remaining pastry for another use).
- Lightly beat egg with 1 tbsp water; brush over edges of 16 pastry hearts. Spread one teaspoonful of preserves onto center of each heart, leaving 1/2-inch border; sprinkle with chopped M&M’s. Cap each heart with remaining pastry hearts to cover filling. Press down edges firmly; seal with tines of fork. Pierce top of tarts with fork to make vents.
- Transfer to parchment paper–lined baking sheet; bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until pastry is lightly golden and crisp. Transfer to rack; let cool for about 15 minutes or until pastry is no longer warm.
- In small bowl, combine icing sugar, milk, vanilla and food coloring until smooth. Spread icing evenly over pastry tarts and garnish with remaining M&M’s.
Tip: Substitute raspberry or cherry preserves for strawberry preserves.
